Tio had learned the basics of Conjuration when she still lived in Gridania, and while in Sharlayan, she used that knowledge and applied it at the Studium, gaining an understanding of the fundamentals of being a Sage. Upon returning to Gridania, she felt a deep desire to aid those scarred by the Calamity, just as she had been. However, she believed the magicks of a Conjurer would be more effective in her efforts instead of using arts from a foreign nation. When rebellion swept across the realm, Tio answered the call, joining the Ala Mhigan Resistance. At first, she served as a field medic, using her healing arts to tend to the wounded. But as the war raged on, she took up arms herself, learning how to wield a sword and shield when her healing magicks fail.Though the grand battles had ended, tension still simmered between the newly liberated Ala Mhigans and the Garleans who remained. Whispers began to circulate of a shadowy figure clad in heavy armor, wielding a massive sword of Ala Mhigan design, cutting down Garleans under the cover of night.

After living in Gridania for a few years, Tio came to know a lot about nature and the different things in it. When she got older, she found herself becoming more fascinated by the fauna inside the Black Shroud, and wanting to know more about the flora of other realms, she joined the Botanist Guild.
After leaving Gridania at the age of 18, Tio made her way to Limsa Lominsa where she found a new skill she enjoyed; cooking. Applying to learn more at The Bismarck, she was initially brought in as an intern, being shafted with most of the cleanup work. A few months of hard work later, she managed to learn more about the culinarian arts, and a chef was born.

Born in the 1550th year of the Sixth Astral Era, Tio was the only child of Isolde Stark, a Highlander woman and native to Gyr Abania, and Daca'li Epocan, a Keeper of the Moon Miqo'te man who left Gridania. For the first three years of her life, she called Ala Gannha her home until the XIVth Legion of the Garlean Empire invaded Gyr Abania, a nation already embroiled in civil unrest. Fearing for the safety of her daughter, Isolde fled to Gridania with Tio in tow, Daca'li staying behind to aid in the resistance, ultimately giving his life to a futile cause. While the inhabitants were wary of the refugees, Tio was able to ingrain herself into the culture of Gridania as she grew, learning how to use a bow, joining the Botanist Guild, and even showing natural talent for healing as a Conjurer. One day when she was 18, Tio and her mother got into a heated argument, causing her to storm out of their home. This made the young woman decide she wanted to explore the land. She eventually found her way to Limsa Lominsa, where she enrolled at the Bismark, originally as a cleaner, but later becoming a culinarian. Here she impressed scholars from Sharlayan on her knowledge of the local flora and offer to take her back with them, an offer that she accepted with no delay. While away, the Garlean Empire had initiated Project Meteor, and the lesser moon of Dalamud fell over Carteneau, sending debris and causing untold devastation across the continent of Aldenard, including her home in Gridania.Months later, she received a letter from Gridania confirming her mother as one of the dead after the events of the Calamity. Grief-stricken, she begins to pack her things and return home, but eventually decides against it, resolving to complete her duties in Sharlayan so she can return home as a Sage so she could begin aiding those that were affected by the Calamity.
